CONCEPT: Creating pottery can be an exciting way to express individual emotion and feelings. We pursue the basics of working with clay, focusing on the fundamentals of good pottery making while expanding our personal visions. We learn to throw, handbuild, trim, glaze and fire pottery.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: High-fire clays, slips, glazes and kilns. We use gas-fired soda kilns and wood kilns.
ACTIVITIES: Doug Casebeer and David Pinto present two demonstrations daily. Individual instruction and personalized skill-development techniques; work on the wheel and handbuilding processes using the extruder and the slab roller.
FACULTY: Doug Casebeer is the Artistic Director of Ceramics, Wood and Sculpture at Anderson Ranch. He has been teaching and organizing workshops for 29 years at the Ranch. Doug’s art is exhibited nationally and internationally. He received his M.F.A. at Alfred University and is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics. www.harveymeadows.com
David Pinto is a full-time studio potter in Jamaica. He has taught at the 92nd Street Y in New York and now teaches through his studio on the Good Hope Plantation in Trelawny, Jamaica. David Pinto is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and exhibits widely throughout Jamaica, Japan and the U.S. www.jamaicaclay.com
